2007 was the first-ever Boutique Beach tournament. And with a tourist town like Napier playing host, there was no option but to have an art deco theme.
The party and BBQ was held at the camp-ground on Saturday night and was a cosy and racous affair, squished as we were under the canopy by the kitchen due to the rain... Awesome costumes all round, and a difficult judging decision, but a prize had to be awarded, so awarded it was to Tiki for her hand-sewn ritsy number.
As for the actual ultimate? Two days of brilliant play by the twenty four people who decided not to eat dodgy burgers on Friday night. The weather was not a treat (I mean, what did you expect in mid-summer in the sunny Hawkes Bay!). We were grateful for the marquee to hide under, and I certainly would have appreciated another sweater.
Never mind though, there were still enough keen players to get a pick-up game going after round robins were completed on the Saturday evening.
On Sunday the round robins were finished and the finals played out. Definitive victory (and not unsurprising) by the green team which I had somehow managed to stack with all the super-expericenced international super-stars despite the public nature of the hat draw... Note to self- do a better job of rigging the teams next year...
The real prize though of course is the spirit award and this went to the red team. Yay Red.
