February 2008 saw the coming of BANDIT! to the Boutique Beach.
Twenty four keen players turned up; perfect for four teams. This year I was pleased to find that none of the players suffered food poisoning from dodgy Friday night burgers in the car, and therefore twenty four players were still around at the end of the tournament also...
Actually, my major concern as TD was that the beach was not around on Saturday morning (top marks for weather planning with an off-shore typhoon blowing). Fortunately the waves did receed mid-morning and we were able to kick off a game with only the sideline under water :)
Saturday was a round-robin format of four-on-four BULA rules. Dominance was shown early by Ned Kelly and Bonnie and Clyde. The conclusion of ultimate on Saturday evening meant the start of beach DDC, which, along with the beer and music strategically provided by me the TD, provided a perfect mellowing stage between playing and partying.
The theme for the party was Bandit - congrats go out to all those who managed to squeeze a costume into their over-stuffed cars, and then find a way to get it on inside a wee tent in the dark! Costume winner for 2008 was Felicity for her convict, complete with ball and chain.
On Sunday the teams completed the second round robin and after lunch it was decided to re-draw the teams for the finals. The winners trophy was awarded to Ned Kelly. I believe that the pink bandannas will be much sought after trading items on the ultimate circuit for years to come. I can't remember who won spirit or MVP, but congratulations anyway. Special award went to Amy for encouraging so many others to come to Boutique Beach.
